We Should All Do More

Christ tells us, “From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required” (Luke 12:48). He was speaking about responsibility: when God entrusts us with gifts, opportunities, knowledge, influence, and resources, He also calls us to use them faithfully—not merely for ourselves, but for His kingdom and the good of others. This is not meant to discourage us; it is an invitation to recognize that our lives can make a greater difference than we realize.

No matter how much—or how little—we think we have, there is always one more step we can take. We can be a little more patient, encourage someone who is struggling, forgive more quickly, share our faith, serve generously, or choose integrity when no one is watching. The Catechism teaches that Christ’s commandment is to love one another as He has loved us, and that when we remain united to Him and keep His commandments, His love becomes active in us. 

So let’s not settle for doing only what is convenient or expected. Let’s ask God to show us where we can do more today—not to earn His love, but because we have already received it. Our growth in holiness is a journey of increasing love, and our witness to Christ becomes visible through the way we treat people, serve others, and share the hope of the Gospel. Even one additional act of love, courage, or faithfulness can become part of the harvest God is bringing about through us.
