Called to More: Overcoming Lethargy with Catholic Purpose
Christ delivers a challenging reminder in the Gospel of Luke: “From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required” (Luke 12:48). He was speaking directly about responsibility. When God entrusts us with life, talents, energy, opportunities, and resources, He calls us to steward them faithfully—not purely for our own comfort, but for His Kingdom and the service of others.
This call is not meant to burden or discourage us. It is an inspiring invitation: your everyday life can make a far greater eternal impact than you realize.
Taking the Next Faithful Step
No matter how exhausted or inadequate we might feel, there is always one concrete step we can take today. We can choose patience in a tense conversation, encourage a colleague who is struggling, forgive an old grievance, pray for someone in secret, or choose honesty when no one is watching.
The Catechism reminds us that Christ’s commandment is to love one another as He has loved us. When we stay close to Him in prayer and keep His commandments, His supernatural charity becomes active in our everyday decisions.
Rejecting the Trap of Mere Convenience
It is easy to settle for doing only what is convenient, comfortable, or culturally expected. But God calls us deeper. Ask Him each morning: “Lord, show me where I can give a little more today.” We do not do this to earn His love—we do it because we have already received it freely.
Growth in holiness is a gradual journey of expanding our capacity to love. Your witness to Christ becomes unmistakable through the practical way you treat people, steward your health, and bring hope into ordinary spaces. Even one small, faithful act of courage today participates in the harvest God is preparing through your life.
